Construction, size, materials and branding: what to check before you order soccer balls in bulk for a club, academy or your own label.
A ball is the one piece of equipment every player touches in every session. Whether you are buying for a club, an academy or launching your own label, these are the points that decide how a ball plays and how long it lasts.
1. Construction
- Hand-stitched: panels are stitched by hand with strong thread. Durable and soft on touch, a common choice for match and training balls.
- Machine-stitched: faster to make and lower cost. Good for training, schools and promotional balls.
- Thermo-bonded: panels are heat-bonded instead of stitched, so there are no seams to absorb water. Consistent flight and a smooth feel, typically at a higher price.
2. Size
Size 5 is used from roughly age 12 upwards, size 4 for younger players, and size 3 for the youngest age groups. Our size 4 vs size 5 guide explains which to order for each age group.
3. Cover material
Most balls use a synthetic cover such as PU (polyurethane) or PVC. PU feels softer and gives better touch; PVC is tougher and cheaper, which suits hard pitches and heavy training use.
4. Bladder
Latex bladders feel livelier but lose air faster. Butyl bladders hold pressure longer and need less pumping, which is practical for training balls.
5. Branding
Your crest or brand logo can be printed on the panels, and colours can be matched to your kit. Send your logo as a vector file and specify colours for the most accurate result.
6. Test before bulk
Order samples and test them on your own pitch: kick, head, check how they hold air over a week and how the print survives. Approve a sample before the full production run.
